This section of AEA’s website is your link to anything legislative or regulatory for public education.
Politics and Education are inseparable…
Think about the decisions that affect your job – Who makes the following decisions for you?
-
The amount of your salary
-
Your out-of-pocket expense for health insurance
-
Your class size and placement of students in your class
-
The teaching strategies you can use and the resources available to you
-
Length of the school year and the school day
-
School bus routes and school lunch menus
-
Whether or not you qualify for workers’ Comp or unemployment insurance
The right to vote – and to persuade others to vote – is a fundamental tenet of American
democracy. As a member of the education family, you demonstrate a commitment to the future
every day. The extra hour you spend helping a reluctant student master a skill, the time
you take after school to evaluate your students’ work, the special care you take to ensure
students receive a nutritious lunch and breakfast and attend school in a clean, healthy and
safe environment, all confirm your commitment to a better tomorrow for your students and your
country.
By becoming active through your Association in the political arena – working to influence
decisions made by elected or appointed officials through lobbying, recommending and campaigning
for pro-public education candidates – you can help your students realize a better tomorrow. At
the same time, you can help shape your own future because public school employees have a personal
stake in the outcome of decisions made by public officials.
