Arkansas Education Association (AEA) Budget Survey

MEMBERSHIP INPUT INTO YOUR 2010-2011 AEA BUDGET
The AEA Budget is developed from the AEA Strategic Plan and member input. The level of emphasis you put on each area significantly affects the level of funding in each area.

Below are brief descriptions of four (4) AEA Strategic Goals. Please read them carefully and reply to the survey below.

PROGRAM DESCRIPTIONS:

Goal #1 Communications
To develop, both internally and externally, a professional image which will validate AEA's efforts as the recognized advocate for public education.

Goal #2 Compensation
To protect, improve, and expand the rights of education employees, the Arkansas Education Association (AEA) will utilize the appropriate vehicles, (i.e. local, state and federal governments), that will ensure all educational experiences are honored. AEA will seek the generation and appropriation of more public monies for public education and pursue equitable funding for public education.

Goal #3 Educational Policies and Practices
To pursue legislation and public policy which provides for lifelong opportunities which will involve education employees in the decision making process.

Goal #4 Empowerment
To stregnthen the association and its members through expanding their rights and furthering the interest of their profession.

Advance the coalition of public schools, parents, businesses, and AEA leaders to build support for public education
Expand the capacity of local affiliates to communicate through the media with their communities

2. COMPENSATION
Pursue equitable funding for public education at the local, state and federal levels
Work to improve salaries and benefits for all education employees
Expand the capacity of local affiliates to bargain
Work to improve funding for retirement benefits
Work to create a portability system for all employees

3. EDUCATIONAL POLICIES AND PRACTICES:
Work to improve educational standards and accreditation practices
Lobby for inclusion of educational employees on public policy boards
Seek legislation that provides opportunities for early childhood education
Education for non-traditional students
Monitor implementation and enforcement of laws that guarantee safety of students and school employees
Provide leadership in forming networks that promote effective public education

Establish an aggressive program to increase memberhsip
Secure enactment of a collective bargaining bill to include all educational employees
Secure a teacher-controlled retirement board
