AEA's FTAThe Arkansas Education Association's Future Teachers of America (AEA's FTA) Program has thirty-seven chapters at the local school level working with today's students to become tomorrow's teachers. Creating a Future Teachers of America group takes hard work and imagination. But the payoff–growing numbers of young people who are excited and eager about the prospects of joining the teaching–is well worth the effort.

The purpose of the Arkansas Education Association's Future Teachers of America is to:

  • Provide an organization which shall function as an integral part of the Arkansas Education Association in promoting cooperation among the chapters in Arkansas and coordinating major activities,
  • Develop leadership and a professional attitude among students interested in teaching or other educational careers,
  • Develop an understanding and appreciation of the teaching profession, and of the history and development of our nation's schools,
  • Build better student-community and school-community relations through cooperative activities with civic and community groups,
  • Secure accurate information about the varied career opportunities relating to teaching and the special competencies required by both,
  • Participate in prevocational activities which are both exploratory and developmental in nature, and
  • Study and identify the qualities, traits and aptitudes which are basic or related to successful teaching.

For information on membership, write or call AEA/FTA, 1500 West Fourth Street, Little Rock, AR 72201-1064 (501) 375-4611 or toll-free in Arkansas 1-800-632-0624, or e-mail ttalbot@nea.org.
